Frequently Asked Questions

1. What hosting plan is best for me? Although the plans offered by USWebLink differ in storage capacity, email, and transfer capabilities, the factor that most often makes the difference is support for eCommerce. If your site is informational, you probably can use the Basic Planr. If you plan on selling online, you will probably need the Store Front or eCommerce plans.

2. Can I design and maintain my own site? Absolutely! Many of our clients use an outside design consultant to create their site. USWebLink supports all major Web technologies such as Flash, Java, PHP, etc. Please advise us of any special needs when you are planning your Web site.

During the design phase, you can mount your site in your user area. When the site is to your satisfaction, move it to its final location. USWebLink provides FTP access to both your user area and Web pages for complete control of the site.

3. How can I be sure that transactions between my site and a customer are secure? If you use the Store Front Plan, communication will be secured by USWebLink's strong SSL encryption. If you use the eCommerce plan, you may also use your own SSL Certificate.

4. How do I get a name for my site? Unfortunately, most short names are already taken. There are over 30 million domain names currently registered. Most are owned by legitimate businesses, but many are owned by speculators. Regardless, you can expect that the name you want is already taken. You may want to concentrate on longer or more descriptive names. For example, if you have a furniture store, you may want to try something like FurnitureByGeorge.com instead of Furniture.com. Alternately, you may want to explore other domains such as the .us or .biz domains. USWebLink can help guide you though the domain registration process and suggest alternate names at a very competitive rate.

5. How secure is a site hosted by USWebLink? The engineering team at USWebLink has extensive expertise in securing Web servers and will continue to use the latest in security software to defend against hostile attacks. In addition, in the unlikely event that security is breached, USWebLink uses penetration detection software that alerts us to any unauthorized modifications to the software. Appropriate action will be immediately taken to rectify the problem.
